Today is the 42nd anniversary of the passing of legendary steel guitarist, Wayne Gailey. Wayne was born December 14, 1938 in Riverside, California and passed away suddenly on August 14, 1978 in Reno, Nevada. Wayne was innovative and always willing to teach his craft to others. Wayne played many years with Kenny Vernon and the Boondockers in Vegas, Reno, Albuquerque, and many other stops along their journeys. Wayne Gailey also had his own band, Swamproot, who played out of the Albuquerque scene. Wayne’s surviving band members, sisters, children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren miss him dearly. Friends of Wayne’s, who my wife Patty and I have had the pleasure of meeting and/or speaking with, always comment on what a great steel guitar player and human being he was. Patty and I would like to thank those who have shared Wayne Gailey stories with us over the past year. We have enjoyed every single one! We love you, Dad! And, we surely will get the honor of meeting you one day!
