Decided to move along this Carter starter that’s been collecting dust in my living room. Three pedals, four knee levers, and a single coil pickup. Here are the issues with the instrument that I’m aware of:
The 8th string lower (LKR) does not lower. Rather, it raises slightly.
This could be attributed to the missing return spring, but I’m not the shrewdest steel mechanic. Also, the corresponding rod is bent.
The 5th string lower (RKL) does nothing. Again, likely attributed to a missing return spring.
The nylon tuners at the changer seem to work but are very stif in comparison to most steels I’ve played.
As previously mentioned, I’m not a very adept steel mechanic, so if any of you fellow forum members see any issues you feel I’m missing here, please reach out and I’ll amend the post. But I’d like to think this instrument could be made pretty usable with fairly minimal work. Unfortunately does not include a case. $800 shipped in the lower 48 can make it yours. Thanks for looking.
