Topic: Are these Gibson tuners? |

Jim Palenscar’s post about a Gibson tuner reminded me of these parts I’ve had in my stash for awhile. My friend Lee Jeffries thought they might be from an old rare Gibson 10 string Electraharp. Look familiar to anyone?

I don't think they ever made a 10-string Console Grande, Erv. Course, I didn't know they ever made a 10 string Electraharp either. The tuner mounting rails doesn't look like any Gibsons I've seen but they did mix it up a bit with different models. I expect those early Grover tuners would be worth something to a vintage stringed instrument restorer even if you can't confirm what they originally came from. |

I’m not sure either...I thought I saw a photo of one but can’t find it. It does look very similar to the 8 string Gibson keyheads though....but I know very little about the Gibson steels.

The tuning machines themselves look like ordinary Grover Sta-Tite tuners that have had the ends of the mounting plate ground down so that adjacent tuners can be butted together and share a common mounting screw. I did that mod myself once for a 6-stringer.

Got to agree with that ...the ends have been roughly ground down and are not consistent...the ones in the pics look like they could be an earlier (?) model though, given slight differences in the knobs and the dished center to the sprockets..
The screws that hold them to the mounting plate look like they were definitely sourced from somewhere else entirely......
