My friend Sid Hudson introduced me to his Live Steel Strings years ago and this is the only string set I have used since. They are the best in my opinion. Just changed them since I have some time on my hands. Was wondering who is still using them.

I settled on them when Jagwire's became hard to get. They do a good job.

The best tone I've ever gotten out of that high G# string, is with the Live Steel Strings. Very Happy

I've been using Live Steel Strings for several years now. I find them to be reliable and long lasting. As long as they keep making them, I'll use them. I'm very satisfied with them and their service is top notch.

I love Live Steels for plain strings and have been using them for years but I use GHS boomers ( “dynamite alloy” whatever that means) for the wounds. Sure makes the string changes expensive though 👎🏽

I bought a set (E9th and C6th) one time to support the forum. The sets I bought were supposed to be Stainless steel (wound) but they sounded like nickel. I questioned Sid about them and got a wise ass answer. I took them off and threw them away. Went back to George L's (stainless).

Love 'em. I much prefer the nickel sound over the harshness of stainless myself, and the Live sets just deliver excellent tone and intonation.

I use them too.

Since I have 2 identical guitars,(MSA Millenniums,)I got one set of SS strings and one set of nickle, so I could compare them.

Listening to them side by side, I could hear a slight difference. The SS strings seemed a tad brighter, and the nickle bit more mellow. But on a scale of 1 to 10, the difference was 9.9 vs 10.1. If I was not able to compare them, I'd not be able to say which was which.

Mike,
I bought a couple of new Williams guitars from Bill and when I started to play them I was rather disattisfied with the tone.
I called Bill and asked him if he put stainless strings on his guitars. He said, yes, they were stainless.
I put on nickel strings and got the tone I was looking for. Very Happy

Erv, perhaps the Millies have their own characteristics that override the differences in the strings. A wood guitar might be more sensitive to this.

The carbon fiber Millenniums are wonderful guitars, but they are not like wood ones. Whee I got my first one, I still had the green guitar shown in my avatar. U compared then unplugged, and they sounded totally different from each other.

They're the only strings I've used for the last 5 years. They last a long time without breakage, and the service has always been outstanding.

I use NXYL Nickel Wound. I did learn years ago that using stainless steel strings on a guitar with metal necks was not a good idea. To bright of a tone.
