So, I recently picked up a Vegas 400. Works fine sounded pretty good when buying it. Cost about $200 in cash and Gas. It's quite worn visually but structurally sound.
Took it to the rehearsal space, and to my surprise, my de-horned Reno 400 blew it out of the water. Smoother tone, better reverb, etc.
Since it is in working condition and doesn't appear to need a speaker, I can probably get it serviced, and upgraded (Peavey upgrade specs and new chips), and with a new reverb pan for around 200 bucks locally. So I'd have about 400 invested in an an amp that would probably be a very good player but still quite rough cosmetically. There is of course the chance that it might cost more than $200 to service...
Alternatively it seems like a variety of steel amps come up for sale here in good condition for around 300 plus shipping which would come to about 400 blocks. This would get me an amp not recently serviced but likely also newer and in better cosmetic condition.
I could probably sell the Vegas for 200 so the overall cash invested would be the same. Time is not a factor here as I've got the Reno for rehearsal and A Milkman for home practice and if I ever play out.
What would you do in this case of "Six vs half-a-dozen"?

| I would try to get my money back out of it and use the proceeds to score the nicest Session 400 or LTD 400 I could find. But that's just me. |
