I'm building a S12 with four pedals using mostly MSA mechanical parts and some homemade components. Is there a standard or "best" spacing for the pedal centerlines (and thus cross-shafts)? |

When I built my U12 I copied the spacing from my 1960s D10, which was at 2½" centres.
My recent Williams guitar measures 2¼".
Hope that gives you some idea. Maybe if you're using MSA parts it would make sense to copy their spacing, but I don't know what that is. But there are plenty of MSA owners on here who can tell you.
Building is fun! _________________ Make sleeping dogs tell the truth!

Most modern guitars are ~2-1/2" center to center.
Many (most?) older guitars with wider spacing had wider pedals too. Rocking your foot on and off adjacent pedals will tend to require less ankle rotation when there is more space between pedals. That may be one of the reasons many builders had gone to narrower pedals (and narrower spacing) by the mid '70s. Just something to consider. |
