It is hard............REAL HARD! It is also brittle.
Good luck trying to machine it. I would not attempt this and keep looking for another option. _________________ Currently own, 6 Groner-tone lap steels, one 1953 Alamo Lap steel, Roland Cube, Fender Champion 40 |

I think I have a person who would sell me a single old magnet and a top cover. I would still need a second magnet though.
I searched and found that Rick Aiello was selling new NIBro magnets for these pickups. Any current source for those? Anyone with a pair of magnets they are willing to sell?
Thanks!

Magnets: At one time, Jason Lollar and crew would sell a pair of new magnets for about $50. Might want to see if that's still the case.
Also, you can probably get by with just one magnet and a wood block. Plenty of these string-through pickups were made that way and worked OK. |

If you want cheap you could probably make a wooden block and then inset stacks of disc magnets _________________ Duesenberg Fairytale

I sent a message to Lollar on their website a couple days ago but haven’t heard back yet. |

I use 1/4 diamond hole saws at work alot, to drill through ceramic tile. These might be the ticket. |

Thanks everyone! I think the magnet is on its way.
It sounds like “re-magging†is a good thing to do. Is there any instructions about how to re-mag these? I would plan to use a stout electromagnet (the base of a magnetic drill press) as the magnetic source. I am thinking that I would need to establish the polarity of the magnets and the electro magnet and then duct tape the magnets in place so they will match and then flip it on for an hour or two.
Thanks! |

It’s alive! Thanks to two fellow members for helping me find the missing magnets and cover plate! It’s working with strong output. The 5th string is buzzing on the pole piece, and with one side of the screw slot broken off I am going to have to file it down when I can take it back apart.
I need to replace the tuner buttons that crumbled, a few missing screws and a tone knob.
