I recently got an old Sho-Bud volume pedal but it needs a new 250K long-shaft pot, a string for it’s pot, the short rear “tension” spring and the rectangular metal bottom plate.

- Should I use an expensive Dunlop “super pot” or will some other long-shafted pot work fine?
- Where can I get or what can I use for a rear spring?
- Where can I get a string like what Goodrichs’ use?
- What to use for the bottom plate?

Thanks.

Cheap pots fail quickly. Get one designed for volume pedals, or a mil-spec (long life) equivalent. I'd use a 500k pot instead of a 250k, but that's just me.

Lowe's and Home depot carry springs in the hardware section. Usually you can buy an assortment pack and find one that will work, or can be modified to work.

A braided shoestring, coated with wax, will last about as long as anything. (Coat it by "sawing" it through a candle or some beeswax.)

A bottom plate can be fashioned from thin aluminum using a file, drill, and some snips (or a sabre saw). You could also use a piece of thin sheet plastic that you've covered with aluminum foil or flashing.
