Topic: Milkman 40 watt Pedal Steel |

| I've been thinking of purchasing a milkman amp. I don't play out that much now. Looking at Milkman Pedal Steel 100 watt amp and the 40 watt pedal steel Milkman both with 12" speakers. For me which would serve me best? |

Unless you live in a 1200 seat arena I'd go with the 40 watter.  |

| I agree on the 40 watt. I have one and it's plenty loud for most situations and sounds great. If you start playing out in a band with drums, you can mic it and it would do fine. If you can't mic it it might still be enough. |

| In the price territory that's home to Milkman tube amps,there's not a lot of difference between the 40 watt Mini and its big brother. The(conservatively rated)85 watt version weighs 10-12 pounds more-about as much as a NV112. If I were to have Tim build me another Milkman,I'd probably go all in. |

| My amp just arrived. Don't think reverb is working. Also, I'm getting a hum when amp is on. Am I not doing something right? I sure like the size and weight. This is not a new. Purchased through Reverb. |

Is it the 40w Pedal Steel Mini?
First thing I would do is make sure all the tubes are seated and the reverb connectors are firmly plugged in.
I'd say some hum is normal with a tube amp. If it's excessive though, there may be a problem. Try unplugging the reverb and see if there's less hum.
Do you know if the previous owner changed any of the tubes?
Next, I'd contact Tim Marcus for some advice.

| Tubes are ok. Unplugged reverb and static hum still there with some popping noise. Trying to contact the seller. I think I want to send it back. I'll get another one. Sure like size and weight of this 40amp. |

If it hasn't shipped yet, try:
1) reversing the cables coming from the reverb pan back to the amp. If they were installed incorrectly (not by Tim, but by someone after it left Tim's shop) it won't hurt anything but the reverb won't work.
2) connect another rca end cable to the reverb pan. It could just be a bad cable.
3) install new preamp tubes in V2 and V3. A 12at7 in V2, and a 12ax7 in V3. It could be just a bad tube in the reverb send and return circuit.
Regarding the static hum and popping with the reverb unplugged, try replacing the V1 tube. A weak or failing tube can cause what you're describing. This is the first tube in the circuit and it is the most important tube in developing tone. It needs to be as quiet as possible. Don't put a cheap tube in this position.
I would try all of the above before giving up on an otherwise excellent amp. When you buy a second hand tube amp there will always be a few issues to sort out; usually tubes.

On one of my Milkman amps, when I got it, the wire inside the reverb tank had come loose from the internal connector...one drop of solder and all was good. That wasn't a Milkman issue, of course - the tanks are standard, and shipping does shake them around...

| I returned the amp because there was no place to take it. Most businesses are shut. I've purchased another Milkman Mini 40 watt.. looking forward to receiving it. I really like the size, weight, another tone. It's a wonderful amp. |

this is a bummer.
Most of the amps that sell used are because there is something very simple wrong with it and the original owner does not want to take the time to contact me for advice. I bet I could have talked you through it too!
This amp might have been under warranty. Oh well, next time!

Tim, it was a 2015 amp. Because of this virus all music stores in my area were closed. It had this sound with popping noise. I decided to return it back to the seller and purchased another Milkman.
I really liked the amp and when I get it I'm turning lose of several amps I don't use anymore. I'm 80 and thinking out the herd. |

I see... it probably just needed a net set of tubes. 2015 was 5 years ago so if the original tubes were still in there it would be beyond time to replace them.
If there are any issues with the other one you receive just let me know! These are very easy to fix and most of the time you can do it on your own by replacing external parts like tubes or the reverb tank.
Like I said, there is a trend where people sell things because they are broken and all it takes is a 5 minute phone call and $10 to make it good as new

The amp was solid, but it required two Preamp Tubes be replaced.

Actually, it was V1 and V3, if i remember correctly, but we know there was also a cable issue when Joe Received the amp. a bad confluence of events, but again, the amp was pretty and solid.
