New on here as of a few weeks ago.I went innocently enough from former fiddler with now crippled hand to playing Dobro.Sounds innocent enough until I saw an ad on Craigslist for a National Chicagoan. Went and bought it. Put in C6 of course, being an old country fiddler.Found out about Steel Guitar Forum. Nowhere on the forum is there a spot warning me about THIS HORRIBLE DISEASE that starts with your FIRST steel guitar purchase. Always been a music theory geek so I always placed myself next to steel player when I got called for a fill in job because I NEVER met one who wasn't a music geek too. Already looking at a seven string standup. Nobody had common decency to warn me so your payback is that I'll probably plague you with questions on ad nauseum..

This addiction does not receive the atttention it deserves, so it's not surprising that you weren't aware of the dangers. You will find support here, but sadly no treatment.

Eric you may be in some deep stuff but when your fever starts to rise put the virus in a room and lock it up and give the key to your wife, take two aspirin and check with the forum in the morning.

Yes yes yes, the disease is indeedly for us insane, the men in the white coats let me out about an hour per day to steel some steal. You see its the obscurities of the instrument that causes the eccentricities of the eccentrisitist and his/her imagination to excite...Welcome aboard the funny farm.

WHY is the Center for Disease Control not doing anything about this epidemic? I caught it years ago and am still suffering...

Just the opposite; membership here only fosters the addiction.

I know the disease your are talking about. Seems you can feel better by buying another steel guitar, But no cure for it.
I played a lap steel, Built a steel guitar, Called it Honey. My wife could not take the competition, Caught her with the Archway Cookie Man one night ended up with a big D, Flattened my pocket book for about 10 years. Bought a steel guitar named it Baby.

The guitar I gig with now, A black GFI, I named it Marie Laveau. They will empty your bill fold, Warp you mind and keep calling you back just to see what happens next.
A Steel Guitar have PMS too. Permanent Mechanical Suspense.
Good Luck and welcome to the adventure.
