Sacred Steel Black History!
Lorenzo L. Harrison was born February 11, 1925 in Ocala, Florida to Frank and Henrietta (Simpkin) Harrison. He was considered the architect and father of the Jewell Dominion steel guitar legacy by many.
Lorenzo designed the "Lorenzo’s Harp" in the mid to late 1970’s. The harp is a gutted-out Hammond M3 Organ fully functional with Fender amplification and JBL speakers. He replaced the ivory keys with a custom made eight string Sho-Bud lap steel guitar. Lorenzo’s trademark Morley rotating wah pedal, is built into the lower part of the harp along with many other additions.
The builders of this ingenious creation is Amos Arthur, Pat Johnson, and Bud Osborne of Arthur's Music located in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Lorenzo passed away December 26, 1986 in Indianapolis, Indiana. During the 2009 Sacred Strings Showcase Concert in Toledo, Ohio, he was honored posthumously with the Sacred Steel Legends Award and later inducted into the Sacred Steel Hall of Fame in 2010. Click link below...
