This, my young friends, is how big band music is supposed to sound like. Wink If any aspiring C6 players want to pick up some inspiration from a musician other than a steel player, you could do worse than listen to Harry James.

Ooh. One of my old heros, Buddy Rich, on drums.

That was a great performance.

Dem guys is tight! I love that old "big-band era". Those old groups like the Dorsey Bros., Harry James, Les Brown, Hal McIntyre, Count Basie, and Woody Herman were just so great! Gone...just like the country and rock music groups that put them out of the business. Time is the greatest recycler - for sooner or later, everything gets replaced.

Great James Band cover of the Benny Goodman tune. Might be that Harry's rendition swings harder than Goodman's though.

Just about any of the jumping big band tunes are good fodder for steel guitar application. Tons of great music.

If anyone cares to hear Buddy Emmons' treatment of that tune on C6, look up the Swingin' series with Ray Pennington and Buddy Emmons It's all in the Swing disc.

That was such a great era of music...its wonderful that so much of it was recorded that we can still listen and enjoy it. Growing up, my mom was a big fan of big band music and my dad was a big fan of country music, so I got to hear a lot of it in the house and learned to love both of the styles.

Nobody swings like Basie. YMMV.
