After all this fuss about my small amps I went out and bought a 1970 Twin with a 15” JBL today 🙄🤪💪 only because it was $500😂

Yeah, early silverface Twin Reverbs are, IMO, the best deal in tube amps out there, by far. Even blackface sell for not a lot more than half of what blackface Princeton, Deluxe, or Vibrolux Reverbs typically go for these days, which is how I got my '66 Twin. I don't think there is a better sounding pedal steel amp out there than a properly dialed-in non-Master-Volume Twin. And for archtop guitar - that Twin is, by far, the best amp I've ever played through.

To be sure, they are not light. But neither is a stock Session/NV 400. And I think a Session 500 is even heavier - at least the one I have is.

We saw Carco Clave at the Dallas convention.
He played steel on the big stage with an SM-58 into a old Tweed Champ.
Sounded fantastic.

Since we're talking tweed Champs, here's a video of a live studio recording we did with one high quality stereo microphone. I used a tweed champ. It was an experiment by the producer to see satisfy his curiosity and see if it could still be done. We basically had to mix ourselves!

I loved that tweed Champ so much I went out and bought the Mojotone clone kit and built one myself! Very Happy

I have a silver face Princeton Reverb in a Mather cabinet that has a 15" speaker. I love this amp! I've played lots of gigs with it. When I need to, I just put a mic on it.
