From Bay Area to Tahoe, Fresno to Sacramento. I would love to come out and hear you play, no matter what kind of music. |

Hey, Fred, I work most weekends around Central California, playing steel with a young country singer named Buck Ford. I live in Roseville -- what city do you live in? I'll PM you with my email and cell number, and maybe a few dates near you. Come by and talk steel!

I'm in Hollister and can't find anyone to play with much less go and listen, any interest in getting together and play ? I'm also a guitar player and singer. _________________ Emmons D10 LL, Mullen S-10 Quilter Steelaire Nashville 112, Gretsch White Falcon, USA Strat & Tele, 68 Hummingbird, Taylor 410 CE, AcoustasonicJr. Blues Jr. |

Ron, you are a little off my beaten path to think about putting something together. But I will keep you in mind if I’m in the area.
It really is a different world now. Once upon a time you couldn’t go 5 miles between Hollister and Oakland without finding a decent honky tonk or at least a dive, and steel players in most of them.
b0b, thanks. I might be heading to Sonoma & Mendocino for a vacation later in the year, and will keep an eye on your schedule. The setup you have on your instruments is intriguing and it would be interesting to see it up close. |

Aug 5th aI'm at The Berryessa Brew Pub just outside of Winters CA with my hippie rock band San Geronimo. I only play steel part of the time....but it's a free show starting in the early afternoon.
August 10th I'm at the Palms Playhouse in Winters with Dave Gonzalez (of the Paladins) and his lady Susanna Van Tassel. They are doing a country duet thing and I'll have my almost brand new Sierra S-10 at both shows.

I rarely post my gigs anymore because no one from the forum ever shows up. It gets kind of embarrassing. _________________ It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. |

At least they know you're working, right? No need to be embarrassed about that!
I prefer to play for non musician types anyhow! They seem to enjoy it more!! _________________ Dave Zirbel-

Dave: You are one of the three forumites that ever stopped in to one of my posted gigs. And I appreciated talking with you. But after awhile one just stops asking the girl to dance. _________________ It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing. |

Thanks, Dave. Winters should be out of the smoke zone by then. I will let you know if I can make it out there. |

Thanks Kerry. I’m in the Sierra foothills east of Angels Camp. I get down to Santa Cruz maybe once every 5 years, and when I do I always get the urge to roll out a sleeping bag on the beach and fire up a fatty. But I never do...nah, never
Bobby Black and I made our acquaintance long ago and have played together many times. He’s a jewel of a person and obviously one of the all time greats on steel. Have a good time at Michael’s.
Anyway, thanks for the responses. Nice to have a list of names to look for when you are all appearing somewhere a little closer to my neck of the dying forest. |

Hi Fred,
You're out near Richard Sinkler in Oakdale.
He should chime in here too probably.
You might contact forum member, Thomas Weil in Fresno for local info in his neck of the woods. |

Yep, Richard and I are practically neighbors, as is Paul Sutherland, though we haven’t met yet. Thanks for dropping Thomas Weil’s name. I will look him up. |

Hey Kerry. How ya doin'.
I'm not working with any band right now. I needed some time off for some rehab. I had a mild stroke in 2016 that affected my right side. I played my first gig in 6 months about 3 weeks ago.
The music scene here in the Modesto-Stockton area is pretty bad. Just this year, 2 of the good music venues stopped having live music. What other gigs that are around are gobbled up by a few bands. The rehab on my right hand went well. I am ready to get out and play again, but the hopes of finding a working band is probably pretty slim. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open E slide guitar) . I just spent a very pleasant afternoon at Red Hawk Casino in Shingle Springs. Wife & I went there to see Buck Ford and the Pure Country Band, featuring forumite Steve French on pedal steel. They are an excellent 6-piece classic country band. Buck is a fine young singer/songwriter. Steve sounded great on his Mullen D10, playing very tastefully mostly on the E9 neck but also taking a swingy ride or two on the C6. It was good meeting up with him again for the first time in many years, and talking steel stuff.
Go see the band if they are playing near you! |

Last night I saw a fine Uni-12 steeler named David Wren with his excellent country rock band, Random Strangers. Introduced myself to David and we had a good chat. I can’t recommend this band highly enough. Quality vocal harmonies, interesting arrangements of classic tunes as well as some obscure gems, great picking from David and guitarist extraordinaire Larry Park, and good people. Go see them. |

Fred, thanks for the kind words! It was great meeting you at our Arnold gig last week! So glad you are looking up the "events" for these forum players.... all very experienced, and wonderful steel players!
Hey Dave Z., thanks for the rodeo gig referral... our band got booked that date, so I sent it on to Bill Bergren, a great SoCal player (and really nice guy) who recently moved to the Sacramento area.
Jeez, it's been years since I actually got out to some other steel guitar players' performances and saw my old friends! _________________ Dave Wren
