Up for sale is a rare c.1938 Rickenbacher seven-string in excellent condition, serial number C-558. Bakelite has beautiful gloss with only a few light scratches on back and one tiny chip next to patent number (see photos). Cover plates were re-chromed a number of years ago and are in great shape, with no dings or significant hazing. One tiny bit of pitting on horseshoe (see photo). Pickup was re-magged by Jason Lollar in 2017 and works perfectly, with very good output and string balance. Pots are smooth and static-free. Knobs are from a late 1930s Epiphone — identical to those used by Rickenbacher but with chicken head-style pointers. I will also include a pair of Rickenbacher replica knobs made by Todd Clinesmith (see photo), which just need to be reamed to fit the volume and tone pot shafts.
Tuners have normal play but hold pitch well. Tuner on seventh string was broken when I acquired the instrument; I replaced it with one from another Bakelite that has a slightly longer shaft but is otherwise identical. I’ll also include one extra tuner (see photo) — a nice bonus as these are expensive and hard to come by.
Includes original hard shell case with localized wear (see photos) but in perfect structural condition.
Of all the Bakelites I’ve played, this is the one with the most of the legendary Rickenbacher “moan.†Strummed acoustically, it has a shimmering tone that sounds like no other steel. A gorgeous instrument and a beautiful player in every respect. I’ve had this one almost fifteen years and am reluctant to let it go, but I’ve decided to part with all my instruments except for the few I have most occasion to use. I hope this will bring someone as much pleasure as it’s given me. I pack with obsessive care and try to get instruments in the mail within 24 hours of payment clearing. $1750 U.S. by PayPal or cashier’s check, plus actual shipping costs. Please PM me for more photos or information.

Marvelous resto, Ian. 😎 Agreed. The combination of its parts make these the most cherished Bakelites of that era of Rics. |

Would you know what the shipping is to zip code 30096 (Duluth, GA)?
Also is there any kind of "duty" to the United States?
That is a beauty.
