In the for sale section, there is a Peavey neo magnet for sale. He says the sticker says 8 ohm, but it is actually 4 ohms. Does the magnet actually carry the ohms rating, or is it the voice coil (part of the basket assembly) that determines the impedance?

It's in the voice coil. Whoever at Peavey decided to put the label on the magnet must have been a marketing person and not an engineer, IMO.

I have a magnet like that on a 4-ohm BW 1501-4, works great.

Maybe the speaker has been re-coned to 4 ohms.

Yes, it's the voice coil.
I recently re-coned a 16 ohm JBL speaker to 8 ohm. Very Happy

I have a feeling the magnet was taken off an 8 ohm speaker.

It's just the magnet that's for sale.

There have been posts before said it was a misprint.

Wow. You think a big company live Peavey would have had enough money to print both 4 and 8 ohm labels.

Quite often the larger a company is, the better the chance the right hand doesn't know what the left hand's doing.

That's a pretty big oversight though. Maybe they are missing the left hand. Laughing

Could be. They have definitely been missing their right hand since they showed Mike B the door.

Magnets are measured in Gauss units.

Off the track a little - if you are in a canoe in the water with a speaker, will the canoe rotate to magnetic north??

If you are in a whirlpool, it will rotate to the bottom. Whoa!

Erv, that happens when you put a 30 gnome fuse in a 20 volt appleflyer with a 50 faraday spleaker. The introductance gets misconscrewed with the resistator, and the amps leak onto the diagram manget.

At least, that what Norm Crosby told me. Laughing

I found that your screams, as you are sinking, sound better with a 43 faraday spleaker.
