Anybody use a graphic eq unit for setting ideal steel sound on input to recording preamp..

I use a Kush Audio Electra sometimes but that is a parametric.

I use a Source Audio EQ that includes 4 slots for presets of your own shaping. So a main one, a Mooney one, a beefy and bassy one, etc.

Maybe try a channel strip such as a DBX 376 . 4 Band Para EQ and on board compressor Uses a 12AX7 or so, single rack space. Reasonably priced but very efficient. Also has a digital out if needed. Used they run around $200, new over $500

I love the sound of graphics at times. They react differently than other eq’s. I love the API graphics and I also really like the old UREI 535 stereo 10 band graphics. You can pick them up for less than a couple hundred bucks and I use my fairly often.

I use a EQ setting that I saved in Logic Pro X so I get a consistent tone from project to project .

I prefer graphic EQs over parametrics because they allow me to "comb" the frequencies. My computer S/C has a 12-band equalizer and I love what it lets me do to the audio on YouTube videos. Very Happy

I've seen some guys using a big old White, like a 4200A.. Those are boutique of course.
