Is there a Society For Mediocre Pedal Steel Players?

I've been learning and playing right about 22 months, and I think I play about as well as a 22-month-old toddler thinks he walks.

So I'm ready to join....

Very Happy Very Happy

Al, after two years I was convinced I'd never be any good, but after another four I've got a steady position in a band and some paid work.
So keep going. I believe Austin is a real musical city, too.

Al, they say when starting out it takes 3 years to work your way up to "suck". It took me more like 6, but I can proudly say I've made it!

Do they have a Minor League I could try out for to work my way up?

For several decades I've aspired to reach the level of mediocre picker. Alas, I'm not there yet. Someday, if there is a "Society For Mediocre Pedal Steel Players", I hope to be added to the list. Rolling Eyes

Keep on pickin'!

My subscription ran out but they keep sending it to me. I wrote that article on bass players as a letter to the editor.

I guess it all depends, where did you want to be Steel-wise, in 22 months ? Was it 22 months non stop or maybe an hour a day or every other day for 22 months ?

What was the expectation ? Maybe you are really way ahead of the curve and don't realize it ! Very Happy

Many here , it took the first 6 months ( or more) to get acclimated to a V-Pedal, a Knee lever and floor pedals. I haven't even mentioned a bar and picks yet. Exclamation

Patience...

I'm totally not complaining! I wanted to be able to play along with country songs and sound like I knew what I was doing, and I wanted to get some idea what the C6th neck was about. I feel like I've accomplished both of those things, and am now approaching mediocrity. Very Happy

I signed up for Paul Franklin's course right after it first became available. I'm retired, and pretty assiduous about working on pedal steel. I'm occasionally interrupted by the call of other instruments.

Heh, well, I'm almost 74, and hoping to be able to play with reasonable proficiency on both necks before I die!
