Okay, I’ll stop whining about pedal steel being hard to master.

So, is it tuned Equal Intonation or Just Temperament?

Does it come in black?

Is it a push/drop or all-fall?

Are those solid-state or tube tone bars?

Lotsa plywood there, was it made by Dekley or MSA?

You’re right, it makes pedal steel look like a child’s toy, and it is an amazing feat of design and engineering with fairly simple materials (plywood, steel marbles, and legos - are you kiddin me?).

But, is this an example of doing a complicated thing toward improving something? Or is it an exercise in “just because we can”? I realize sometimes such an exercise can lead to an accidental discovery that otherwise might not have been made. Maybe for this project it had nothing to do with making music or building design, but had more to do with teamwork, or tooling, or some other tangent.

Pedal steel looks like it’s much more fun to play. Or operate, or program, or whatever you do with that music box thing, which by the way looks like every roadie’s nightmare...
