Does it make any difference if you use shielded instrument cable or speaker cable to connect a preamp to a power amp?

George, shielded cable is recommended because of noise issues. In a pinch you might get away with a speaker cable if it's short but why would you not use a patch or guitar cable.

The best shielded cable you can find.

Speaker cable is not for anything but lamp cord and speakers.

Mogami 4 conductor, twist two pairs together to make a single hot/ground to 1/4" plug unless your preamp-out to power amp-in is XLR.

The signal from a preamp to power amp "in" is better served shielded.

Godfrey,

The Mogami wire in the photo you posted is 4-conductor unshielded speaker cable.

Great for hooking up your stereo speakers but not what's called for going from a preamp out to an amplifier input.

That cable should definitely have a foil or braided shield.

Thanks Bill my bad. Yes I'm aware of the diff. Been multi-tasking like the Tasmanian Devil and clicked on the wrong photo.

I meant to post a Quad type wiring.

I have Canare L-4E6S for quad wiring.

I do have Canare 4S8 speaker cable.

I'm a quad wire type. Very Happy

I am using a very high quality 95% shielded cable, so I am good to go.

Thanks for confirming what I suspected.
