| Actually it is priced around $50.00 lower than the listed price shown on the Elderly Instruments site. This model appears to be the lower cost alternative to the U.S. built Beard 'Mike Auldridge' model (around $4000.00). |

Yep..Going price without case. I just checked the Beard website.
Fine guitars for the $$. Buy from Beard if his setups are meaningful to you.
The PBS-D is the "middle model" in the line and my personal favorite.
Full disclosure. I retired from Beard Guitars and know these guitars very, very well.

New? The price.
Used..? Haven't a clue. I just don't keep up with pricing. It might depend on whether Goldtone set it up (95% of them) or if original set up by the Beard shop.
Age?? If used, the the cone, and especially bridge inserts are "wear items" and the guitar might be due for a set up. Only inspection would determined if a lightly played guitar is good to go "as is".
These are not "collectable". They are well built & respected "players" guitars. Imported bodies with Beard Guitars internal parts and set up in U.S.A.

| Evan - I bought mine from there about 10 years ago. We drove from Dallas to buy it and didn't pay their listed price. I think we got a little off plus they threw in a tonebar and the case. I love my PBD. |

Just an fwiw..
As Jody alluded to, these guitars have been around for more than ten years now. Road proven & worthy.
I recall at the time the line was introduced that the least expensive "Dobro (R)" was $2,600 STREET price. The Goldtone PBS-D originally was about $750 and was a better designed, executed and SOUNDING guitar (imho).
Shortly thereafter...No more "Dobro(R)".

| Thanks for the update. Its a great shop. I bought a beginner model dobro and am being called on to switch from guitar to dobro for my band so I think it might be time to upgrade. I'll probably go check it out tomorrow and see if they'll take my old one as part of payment. |

GT is one of the big distributors of high end Asian instruments, along w/Saga, Eastman, Music Link, their upper banjos are very decent instruments e.g. ob-250 w/standard tonering. Of the 4 I'd say Eastman and GT have the best QC
That's a fair price, if you can try out the RK ledbetter, Wechter Scheerhorns, sometimes Redlines and others show up in the price range. The W-S w/round screenholes are becoming hard to find. Somewhere on here or maybe the reso forum, there were threads about taking up the cone and spider and looking at the ledge the cone sits in and checking the spider is dead flat but if it plays/sounds good maybe don't bother

Actually, Goldtone is a U.S. company with offshore manufacturing. The designs are unique to Goldtone.
Like Eastman, instrument bodies are shipped to the states where they are setup domestically.
Yes, compared to other Asian imports the fit, finish and QC is quite high.

I believe Elderly Instruments has Beard do all the setups on their Goldtone Resonators. That is a valuable perk. I would confirm this before ordering. If this is no longer the case, you can buy it new from Beard with their setup for $1213. I would do that before buying a used for almost the same price. So I would discount any used instrument by at least 1/3rd of the Elderly price. The sticker price for new instruments does not include the case - so add about $150 for that on the new price. This is just my opinion, of course.

$1100 or so is the going rate for most better quality budget/import guitars. Not what experienced players would consider a top-quality instrument.
A really good instrument for a beginner or low/mid intermediate player though.
OTOH for $1000-2000 you can get a hand-built custom instrument from Tom Warner at Appalachian and a few other small builders that have tone and projection far beyond these imports, no matter who does the setup IMO.
