After owning my guitar for 30 years, I broke a raise rod hook on a gig the other night. It was on my 6th string so it was a difficult evening.

I luckily had one from a change I took off earlier, so have fixed it since, but looking to the future, what kind of metal is used for this?

Or are they available?

Want to be prepared for the future.
See below.

It's called music wire, or spring wire, 0.055" diameter. It's just stiff carbon steel. Get yourself a lifetime supply here for $11.82: https://www.mcmaster.com/8907k58

In an emergency you can also buy some those little landscape marking flags, I think most of those the wire is a little thicker, 1/16", and not quite as stiff, but it will do in a pinch.

What I’ve used in the past are wire rods used to hold insulation in place between floor joists available at most lumber yards. They’re about 15” long, a lifetime supply is around $5 and they are a little thicker than music wire. [/i]

Bobby Seymour once told me to use the wire from the little orange construction flags available at Home Depot or other hardware stores. Cut it and shape it with pliers. I think he mentioned this in one of his videos on the push pull.
