Inspired by Howard Parker’s recent thread on playing at the US Capitol building.
Have you ever played steel guitar (any genre) at a famous building or landmark?
Last night we played for the Yeoman Warders (summer BBQ) at the Tower of London. Three sets of classic honky tonk for their friends and family with a set break for the nightly (unbroken for 700 years!) locking up “The ceremony of the keysâ€. A real treat!
With no evidence to support this I dare say it was the first time they had a pedal steel within the walls of the Tower.

Since it's nearby, I've played steel, uke, and guitar at the Great Sand Dunes on a few occasions. But from experience, I've learned to leave my mouth organs at home.

As much as I possibly can. I’ll always be something of a hack but I’m having fun trying! It’s always interesting playing unusual venues, bowling alleys, ice rinks - this one definitely takes the biscuit for me. You must have played some historical places or beauty spots John?
Jack, that looks incredible!
I’m hoping there are some Mt Rushmores and Taj Mahals on players’ CVs... or anywhere out of the ordinary really  |

It truly is one of the unique places on the planet, Jonathan. It's a joy watching the sunrise over the Great Sand Dunes and the Sangre de Cristos every morning. Perhaps only topped by the full harvest moon rising over Blanca Peak, which happens once a year in the end of September. Absolutely spectacular. |
