I have a problem... so many songs, so little time.
I have been gigging for many years and I have learned a ton of tunes in nearly every style. I love them all.
Most of the time I play solo and I am finding it harder to choose what songs to play... (what songs to leave out) I currently have over 500 arrangements with backing trax that I have recorded myself playing all the parts, and some more now created with BIAB software.
Some songs I don't like as much, so I don't play them unless requested.
Because I play the Hawaiian Steel Guitar, I get a lot of bookings at "LUAUS" or Hawaiian themed events. At these I know what I have to do. But at my other performances I struggle choosing because I have way too many favorites.
I guess this is a "Good" problem?

Set your backing tracks on "shuffle" and surprise yourself! |

Yes it’s a good problem to have!
When you are in a tribute band, you play the same 40 songs forever. After about the 500th time through, you start looking around for your sanity, like Bill Murray in Groundog Day.
But that experience did drive home the fact that it is just as important to have set lists that work as it is to have strong individual songs. You want the set to have some kind of natural flow so an audience can kinda grab the overall vibe you’re trying to express. With 500+ songs in your rep, I’m sure you have experimented with that. |

I saw a singer-songwriter recently that had a basket with filled with numbered slips of paper. A member of the audience would draw a number, and he'd open to that page in his book and play the song. I picked one that he hadn't played in years (or so he said). Interesting concept. _________________ -𝕓𝕆𝕓- (admin) - Robert P. Lee - Recordings - Breathe - D6th - Video |
