Today I cleaned up my Emmons PP. Put new strings on both necks and gave it a good cleaning. I noticed the pick guards were pretty scratched up from years of use, I'm sure there the original guards. Here's what they looked like before I cleaned them. I cleaned them with Acetone. As you can see it made a big difference. The Acetone was about $10.00 at Lowes. Works to clean up Car plastic head lamps really well to. You can see the difference in the last picture. She looks as good as she plays now.

That looks great Billy. Glad it worked out for you. I've used acetone on other fretboards and it totally removed the artwork so one needs to be real careful.

I am more comfortable using Windex or mild glass cleaner, IMO, then a light wiping with a bit of furniture polish like Pledge or something that will give it a wax like protection.

Windex would not do the job, the fretboards were scratched. Like Jim said the Acetone takes off a tiny bit of the color finish. That's why it works so well on plastic auto light covers that have turned yellow.

I had a friend that used Acetone on his motorcycle windshield an it totally destroyed it.

I have used acetone for years in different applications. You have to use extreme caution. Anything plastic or painted can be ruined. I would be afraid to use it on plastic headlights. Depending on the type of the plastic, it might work or might not.
