I have been learning the steel from a Sturgill Simpson Song and need some help. If you haven't listen to this guy there is a ton of great steel on his album.

The song I am looking for help with is, "Life ain't Fair and the World is Mean."

The part I'd like to learn starts at 1:06 and ends at 1:16.

I can't find a good youtube video to have ya'll listen too but the times I've given are off his album track, the only youtube video doesn't correspond. I'd like to learn what is on the album.

Any help would be great.

Adam,

That is cool, thank you for taking the time to write that out. It took a while to get it but I got it. I really like the LKL lick going into A, That's going in the bag of tricks.

Thanks for the tab Adam! Looks and sounds right to me. I have a little trouble picking with the thumb twice as you indicated though. I find it easier to use the index for the second stroke. It helps me pick block this way at a fast tempo. I like this tune, it reminds me of old Waylon. Very Happy

Is this tab in c6 tuning? I really love Sturgill, and wondered if you knew how to play the solo in water in the well?

Hi Guys,

I also tried transcribing this one. I really like Adam's version. I tried to do a couple of moves differently, to hopefully shed some light on some alternate ways of playing this. I did measure 3 a little different and used the B and C pedal on measure 4 at the 7th fret.

Here's a demo of the "Life Ain't Fair" solo on youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5C4mga7m2Pc

Also I have the solo to Robby's " "Water in A Well" on my website: www.RadyGuide.com. You're welcome to try it out for a month free with promo code: SGF001 (you will have to go through Paypal still Sad )

Thanks Dudes!

He has some cool stuff. To bad he didn't have a pedal steel on long white line from his last album. His tele player does some cool stuff but not the same.
