That was the late Jack Smith. The Happy Goodmans recorded a live album in St. Louis 1971. It is simply called "Wanted Live, The Happy Goodmans". Jack stated he was 16 when they recorded that album. He did some fantastic picking on that album and there are some of the songs on YouTube. Here is the link to an audio of the album.

The Goodman band recorded an album years ago called "100 Miles Out Of Nashville". The first video is an example of the music on it. It's a really good instrumental album of some of the Goodman's hits.

| Darvin, do you know who the steel player was on "100 Miles out'a Nashville" was? Jack or Rabbit? I never knew they recorded an instrumental album...I've talked to Jack in the past several times, and he never mentioned it. He was real proud of the WANTED LIVE album though. |

Duane, it was Jack on that recording. This was recorded before Rabbit played for the Goodmans.

Jack Smith with the Happy Goodman Family and Ronnie Moore with the Hinson Family provided my earliest inspiration and learning material. Then the live album with the Happy Goodman Family featuring Lloyd Green came out. A few other influences were Johnny Cox with the Singing Rambo Family, Glen Paul with the Hemphill Family and Gary Dillard with the Kingsman quartet. Of course, the studio recordings of these groups would include Weldon Myrick, Hal Rugg, John Hughey, and Sonny Garrish among others. In fact, Sonny Garrish was a great influence in the mid-80's.

| Sonny Garrish played on so many Gospel records it is unbelieveable. I am amazed how well Jack Smith played at 16 years of age. |
