Heel stays in contact with the floor.
Find the position on the floor to plant the
heel such that the heel stays on the floor
and provides a pivot as the foot (and toes)
angles upward off the 'current' pair of pedals
and rotates over and above the other pair
of pedals.

I slide my heel over about an inch. There’s no way I could engage C and not B or vice-versa (which I do a lot) without moving over. Everyone’s feet are different; you do what works. If you don’t have to slide over, don’t. |

Additional tip:
If you have to move from ab to bc, do it in time with the music. That way, the change fits in, then. Just like changing from lkl to lkr, doing it in time with the music makes it fit.

I practice switching from one ball of foot on B to the other without shoes/socks, tho I can't play without shoes, to get the spacing into muscle memory
Tony Prior has some good thinking in this thread w/similar question, which evolved into a "How do i practice" thread
