Worth the wait. Baby Clinesmith got a new Big Brother today.
Todd reworked this long scale he'd built in March 2016 for me.
Looks like a brand new steel and it's got that now famous tone and sustain.
All I can say is I'm another happy camper today! Laughing Very Happy

Andy,

I'm curious as to what Todd reworked on your long scale cast aluminum steel and why. I have a Joaquin model which I love and have been thinking about trying to acquire one of these.

Thanks,
Matt

Hi Matt,
It was not a new steel. It was one of the first of this model that Todd made.
Maybe it was the first one? I should ask him about that? Question
Was his personal steel. He also loaned it to Jeremy Wakefield for a while, though I'm not sure if it was used on any of the Sponge Bob Square Pants sound tracks?
I should ask him about that. Question

Anyway, Todd made it like new again for me by taking off all the black lacquer, Re sanding and polishing the surface.
I also asked him to only use the black lacquer on the fretboard background and in the keyhead because I really like the polished aluminum look. I'd seen another done like that and sold to another forum member about a year ago.

At one time I'd considered having him make a double neck like the Joaquin maple steel but those have closer string spacing and I prefer it wider. Very Happy
I'm planning to make a deco style stand to hold both of these together.
Just another project to make me feel guilty for not having it done yet! Embarassed Laughing

Thanks Andy,
I really love the way these steels feel, sound and play.
Now having both the tunings I like is really cool.
Best wishes,
Andy Very Happy

Post  Posted 14 Jun 2019 4:38 am     About the E6/9th Tuning

About the E6/9th Tuning. I was using this quite a bit last year.
This time round I'm more often tuning the bottom two strings, 7&8 to D&E rather than E&F#.
Both work well, but I do like having the low 7th D note a lot.
However, when picking out melodies the F# 7th string seems to come in handy very often.

I did come across this thread on the tuning from over a year ago. Lots of players had their ideas to add;
https://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=330523&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=essential+tremor&start=0

Back then I'd missed these easy chord changes C Am F G7 available like this;

I do find the last G7th back to C a little tricky to play in tune! Embarassed

I still think this is a great tuning and useful for players who play both with and without pedals. Very Happy

In the last post I'd said this "I do find the last G7th back to C a little tricky to play in tune! Embarassed"

Now that I've been using that reverse slant for many moons I find it very easy... Practice makes perfect.
I've also been using it on my A6th steel now. Good luck.
