Nick,
Are the new strings the same gauges that you always have used? _________________ Twang to the bone! |

I have ordered a bottle of Tri flow oil, but I am struggling to find something suitable to clean off the nasty lubricant I used. I can get hold of Ronsonol lighter fluid, but I read that they no longer use Naptha in it. Any other suggestions for a cleaning agent?
I have a bottle of Swan lighter fuel which contains extra refined and purified butane gas. Would this work? |

Nick, I keep thinking about your recent installation of the NYXL strings. That event marks the start of all your trouble.
New strings will detune (go flat) when raised, especially if they were not manually stretched when installed. This will be more pronounced on wound strings.
Strings can slip at the tuning post if not wrapped to lock them onto the post.
Some suggestions from Bud Carter are found here:

See How to change strings
And Larry Robbins asks a good question about the new vs old string gauges. Not that you can't make changes, but adjustment of tuning nuts and pull length may be needed.

Do you have access to Spray Can Starting Fluid, (Like used on Diesel Engines in cold weather) It is an either based fluid. It will clean and remove all lube. Re-Lube as soon as the either dries away. Protect finish on guitar from the spray just to be safe. Stay away from Brake Cleaner it can wreck a Lacquer finish if that is what your guitar has.
Good Luck and Happy Steelin. |

Nick
I will give your guitar a full going over with you in my workshop this coming Tuesday. There aren't too many problems to check for, and I'm sure that whatever is causing the issue will become quickly apparent. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator.
