Those pictures have me confused.
It looks like kind of a mismatch of Stringmaster necks.
When re-assembled, I doubt if it would it result in a Quad.
And the flanges for the legs, what's that all about?
One neck doesn't have any leg mounts.
And it's supposed to be 1/2 of a D-8. Whoa!

It looks a bit to me like a D8-ed quad.

The switch plate had to come from a quad.

Comparing to this:
https://tinyurl.com/ybjgyjk2

The far neck has the Fender logo and a blank switch plate.

The neck attached to it, has had the switch plate moved up from the second neck. The two dismantled necks, maybe neck 1,2? And they moved the sockets over to the dismantled side to make it into another D8? The case itself makes me think it must have been a quad. I dunno, a definite rescue project, for sure! We'll see if it gets too rich for my blood.

Nick,
I think you maybe have it figured out.
Someone took a quad and tried to make 2 D-8's out of it, without much success.
A project for sure! Whoa!

I don't think anyone tried to make two D8s out of it (if they had, they would have put leg holes on all 4 necks).

My guess is that they got hold of a quad with two missing control plates (including the one with the volume/tone knobs) and, instead of finding new parts and restoring it, decided to make one working double neck out of what they had.

If they were using necks 1 and 2, they would have had to put new leg holes on neck 2.

Looks like they didn't use necks 3 and 4 for some reason because you can see one of the unused necks has a logo in it (which would have been neck 4).

It's not possible to tell without more detaled pictures if that's correct but often the simplest explanation is the right one. The fact that it is in a quad case supports the theory that it's all from the same guitar. Hopefully, if Nic buys it, he'll post some more pics and be able to answer some more questions.

As long as all the necks are different thicknesses, it's a quad. All it would need is a couple of new control plates (ideally a blank and one with control knobs) and their associated hardware and a couple of new tie rods to hold it all together.

It looks in a lot better shape than mine was when I got it!!!

*sad face* well, didn't get this one...I only hope whoever did isn't going to part it out but hopefully coax it into a good playable instrument for the long term. Too few quads out there. My wife has already chastised me for the analogy, but I invoked Schindler's List, "these cufflinks, they could have saved another quad!" (I'm so sorry, sorry, that's terrible I know)
