Anyone played a PSG through one of the ZT Custom Shop amps - The Jazz Club or the Lee Ranaldo version?

Interesting. Sounds great for jazz guitar in the video clip on their website (link below). The price point though puts it in the same range as some other amps designed specifically for steel guitar.

And the size and weight put it in a range for old men totin' gear. I also like the power rating. Not much of a chance of finding one in a showroom. It got a good review in Guitar Player.

| It does sound great with an archtop. Price matches the Henriksen and a few others. I would like to try the Henriksen with pedal steel. I have a Quilter micropro mach2 combo amp 1x12. I found a way to get good tones by using a separate amp sim in its effects loop. Nice lightweight amp serving double duty. |

the ZT amps sound great for jazz guitar, but IMHO aren't great for anything else...I tried mine with lap steel and gypsy guitar...guitar was fine, lap steel was really treble and solid-state-sounding...I use mine (ZT lunchbox I got for half-price on eBay) for a monitor when I play lap steel or Weissenborn in the band...for that it is fine. The guitar player tried it and liked it. for what I paid, it is a great, small, powered monitor..
YMMV, of course....but I'd advise getting one from someplace that takes returns...

Although more pricey, my solution to “old guys toting amps†is the Milkman “The Ampâ€....beautiful tone, lots of power, and you can leave the speaker cab home and use the XLR out to the PA if you like....

O have 2 iof the older clubs, and like them a lot.
If I didn't already have too many amps and not enough money, I'd probably get one of these newer ZTs.

I think that if you are used to that solid-state sound the ZT will sound fine - if you are a Sarno Black box or tube amp user, the ZT seems sterile sounding...the classic tubes vs. solid-state debate...YMMV

For what it's worth, I use a Sarno black box with my ZT, but not with my Quilter.It really enhances the sound of the ZT, but (in my opinion) makes the Quilter sound a little muddy.

funny - I meant using it with other amps, hadn't thought of using a black box with the ZT - it doubles the weight of the amp package! But I guess it would help a lot...

I had a Henriksen amp for a few weeks. It was light, it had kind of a nice sound, though to my ears, the pedal steel needs an amp that can put out considerable low end which that one didn't. I took it to a gig where I played duo with a singer/acoustic guitarist, and it just didn't have enough headroom. I have not found one of those small amps that could sing to me.

Absolutely right....I was playing a lap steel, for which it was marginally OK....not a pedal steel...
