Hey y’all,
I’ve seen the string gauge chart for lap steel that will basically help you with any tuning you want, but can’t find the same for reso.
My Gretsch Boxcar square neck is four or five inches longer than my lap steel, so I don’t think that chart will do it. Here’s the tuning I want to try:
(Treble side)
E4
C#4
B3
G#3
E3
C#3
(Bass side)
Any good sources for string gauges I could try?
Thanks,
Paul |

Any set of strings for C6 tuning should work with this tuning as well. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel

Turns out I was wrong about the extra "four or five inches"; it’s actually 2.5 inches longer. So that extra length + the slightly higher tunings on most of the strings wouldn’t be a worry?
Thanks,

Only caveat I'd add, if you go searching for -acoustic- C6 sets, the one I come upon most often is actually C6 high G. You could use that but would likely want to lose the first high G string and add a larger string on on the bass side for low C, or C# in this case. _________________ Waikīkī, at night when the shadows are falling
