I’ve always wanted a Lloyd green model steel. I just got one a couple of days ago and it is a beauty. But it has an L705 pick up on it. Can anyone tell me what they wound those pick ups to as a general rule? Also I have the original pick up the came with the LDG model; what did shot wind those pick ups to? I also noticed that when I engage my knee lever on the fourth string it always comes back flat. Would that be a finger problem underneath?

Flip her over and see if something is rubbing on the rod or other parts that return the 4th string. Also check the nylon tuning nuts for rubbing, stripped threads, or other damage.

Might try tightening the return spring with the Phillips head screw for that string. Hope this helps.. Don't know the original ohms, but I love the 705 in mine. I had a TT wound for mine, and Ricky Davis suggested 17.5k tapped at 11k...

David Z.; the Bill Lawrence 705 is a "Humbucker" with two blade magnets and is 20.5 ohms; but it is NON-comparable in that resistance to a single coil "pole magnets" pickup like a truetone or original ShoBud pickup and Originals were wound somewhere in the 19,000 ohm area...ha....
As for your Lower returning flat....yes most likely you need to tighten that return spring; and if there is not a Phillips head at endplate to turn to tighten..then you have a later model with a spring that hooks on both ends...> you need to take the spring out and cut a ring off it...bend that end back out to hook...and hook back on.

DC resistance measurements are relatively meaningless when it comes to pickup output and tone. The wire used, the bobbin design, magnet type, design and placement and other factors are more significant.
