Looking for an unwound .028 or .030 string for resonator?

I'm looking to try a new tuning on my acoustic square neck resonator and wanting to use an unwound string for the 3rd string and tune it to an E. As best I can tell it would be optimal to use a .028 or .030 string. However, I'd prefer to use an unwound string.

Anyone know where I can find an unwound string that size?

Maybe autoharp, zither, hammered dulcimer strings, or even piano wire??

I think you're going to have a hard time finding a plain string of that gauge, besides that, I think it would be quite unstable.

How about a semi flatwound from SIT or similar?

Thick plain strings sound awful to my ears. Iâ€™ve tried .024 and it really had a nasty metallic tone that did not vibrate smoothly.

David - If you still want to try your original tuning, I did a quick search and turned up a plain steel .028 from Labella at www.labella.com. You can order one for a buck!
