Once upon a time (early 70's) I played an MSA Semi-Classic S-10 4+2 in a Christian Country Rock band. But unfortunately I grew up, cut my hair, and the steel became a thing of the past. Last July I drove down to Jim Palenscar's shop in Oceanside to set things right. He showed me several S-10's in my budget, but this MCI just stole my heart. It's a welded-frame Arlington serial #A1100, clean and polished like brand-new, with the Marcus Welby (Barcus Barry) pup, and (when I play well) it sounds like a great PSG. It's so great to be playing (learning) again and a part of this terrific forum. Thanks again Jim!

Great choice Mike, these are fabulous guitars, I have had my D10 since new in 1986 ...

However those Barcus Berry pickups are not great - the guitar will come to life if you change them out to either a George L E66 or a Telonics ! I have Telonics 409's on mine and it sounds fabulous. The BB's are a little dark and do not have the "string separation" most of us strive for.

Wow, an S10 MCI... they are fairly rare.. Matter of fact, yours is the only one I have ever seen anywhere.. All MCI or EMCI steels I have ever seen were D 10's.. I have read about one or two guys owning them but never saw one.. bob

Paddy, thanks for the pup suggestion.... I’ve heard this before and think I’ll replace the BB

Bob, there seem to be a few out there, but don’t know how many are owned by forumites. It really is a great guitar, thanks.

Paddy,
I went for the E-66 and I'm pleased with the results. No, I don't sound like Buddy, but yes it sounds a bit more full... which is what I was after. It was easy enough to do... just had to trim the mounting ears.

Dan,

....well, David did sit in with them at Monterey.
I saw them live in 1967 and that set my musical course.

Great Mike, I had E66's in mine for quite a few years and they were a big improvement on the BB's :-}
Enjoy these great guitars !
