Topic: Are later Rick horseshoe pickups different? |

Are the Rick horseshoe pickups from late 60's significantly different from the horseshoe pickups from the 50's? I read that pickups with horseshoe style covers made by Excel and Sho Bud were quite different from Rick, but how about early vs later Rick pickups?

I was just reading the other day that the horseshoes Ric makes relatively recently do not have magnetized shoes...there's another magnet in there. So the shoes are just metallic polepieces or eye candy, I'm not sure. Also not sure when that practice began...this was in context of bass pickups for 4000 basses, vs the steel guitar pickups which I'm sure stopped being manufactured once they killed off production of those guitars.

I seem to recall reading a thread with this info on the board. Rick Aiello is top of the food chain on this topic. Do a few searches and I bet you can find the answer here.

| All I know is that the original horseshoe pickups were 1 1/2" wide and the later ones were 1 1/4" wide. |
