"The Doctor of Steel" passed away on Feb 28, 2019. A member of this Forum since 2001, Dr. Hugh Jeffreys produced a wonderful album of his steel music in 2002. You can hear it at The Doctor of Steel web site. Following that CD, he also wrote a short book on how to read music for C6th steel guitar. There is a short obituary Dr. Jeffreys at legacy.com. Learn more about Dr. Hugh's amazing life at http://steelguitarbyhughjeffreys.com/about/ .

My sincere condolences to his loved ones. I never met Dr. Hugh in person, but through our correspondence considered him a friend.

I met him one time, about 12 years ago when he came to one of our Florida Steel Guitar Jams. He didn't play at the jam. He was in Tampa to play at a show. He was friends with another club member (and Hall of Fame member) Roy Ayres.

My condolences to his family. I remember him well and his frequent treatises on how to learn to read music notation for steel, plus, IIRC, using all 5 fingers on the right hand... RIP, Doctor, and thank you for your contributions to the steel community.

Here he is in about 1955/56 with Johnny Bernero's band as recorded by Sam Phillips in Memphis.
