Just pointing out that album of the year, with Kasey Mcgraves “Butterfly”, and best pop duo performance, Gaga’s “Shallow” both have pedal steel on the recordings.
Not that you could hear pedal steel on the live show. The Dolly tribute had a steeler playing nicely on “Jolene” but it was barely audible.
It’s not a bad thing for the instrument when pedal steel gets into the mainstream like this.
Right?
John

The steel on Shallow is fairly prominent. A very well produced and interesting song; I’m glad it won something.

I noticed the steel player on stage with Lady Gaga but could not tell ...who...the steeler was.

Anyone know who was on stage and who played on the record?

Ahh, so it was Tommy White on the movie track too? I asked this question a few months ago and got no answer. Now that it’s a Grammy winner, we all know. Way to go, Mr. White!

As far as I can tell, that question was answered definitively only for the live Grammy performance. Not saying Tommy wasn't on the recording, just that I think specific question that Fish answered on the other thread was about the Grammy. There are also a couple of shots clear enough to see that it's actually Tommy.

This shows Leroy Powell on PSG, and Jesse Siebenberg on lap steel:

Jesse is the drummer in Lukas Nelson's band. He was my college roommate at Berklee. He wasn't playing steel back then, but neither did I! Also of interest: his dad was the drummer in Supertramp.
