Does anyone know if Chris Scruggs plays any steel guitar on this Marty Stuart Show? I’m tempted to go Thursday night - April 11!

Saw them last year in Missouri, Chris only played bass and sang harmony, supporting Marty's song catalog. And did a damn fine job of it.

I've seen them 4-5 times, and while once or twice there was a double-neck Fender console steel set up, Chris never played it.

Yes Chris plays non-pedal steel and pedal steel; as I set up his Sho-bud S-10 for him when he was in town. But it's really hard to play Steel when you are THE BASS PLAYER..ah.ha..LOL...I believe Chris told me they were 4-piecing these tours with him on Bass.

Chris is a fine bass player and I'm sure it pays the rent and groceries, but I can't help thinking what a waste of his consummate steel talent! If I were Marty I would feature him on steel on at least a couple of numbers.

The only time I saw Chris play steel was with Michael Nesmith and when Marty and the band toured with the Byrds Sweethearts tour a few years back. He had the Sho-bud threat Ricky worked on with him.

Agreed. But then again, I am not Marty. (Nor is anyone else.)

I ended up not being able to make it. Too bad.

I dear hear Chris play bass at Roberts in Nashville. So good.

I saw them in Missoula, MT , after Way Out West album came out (still one of my favorite albums in a long time). As much as I love Chris’s steel playing, Marty and Kenny get great steel sounding licks in on the Tele-bender—and a steel is not needed. I know that is sort of sacrilege here, but Chris’s stellar bass playing is critical IMO. And those bender licks by Marty are damn cool.
