I just found this clip I took- from a cell phone I stopped using a couple of years ago:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rb_XUsirRQ0

Joe also has a wonderful and growing collection of outstanding vintage LAP STEELS! Thank you again so much Joe!

I need to give special thanks to these two forum members:

Dr. Richard Shatz, for sharing his opinion at that time, that the EH-185 with the Alnico pickup
was his favorite, when I asked him which Gibson 6 string lap steel he liked best.

And to forum member Peter Huggins, who found this GEM for me!

It had just been released for sale at Guitar Center's Hollywood, CA Vintage Dept., after hanging on the wall
there marked 'Not For Sale' for about 3 decades!

It was from the very last run of 50 that Gibson built.

Hope you enjoy the clip!

Barney

cool! have fun with that one! great clip of joe. so, did joe sell it to GC and you bought it there? sort of confusing but glad you have it.

i went to joe's garage sale a couple years ago and bought a gibson reverb unit from him. a friend who went with me bought a harmony amp and a couple of guitar cases. joe is very cool and friendly. even got a picture of he and i.

play music!

"did joe sell it to GC, and you bought it there?"

No. Peter called me from GC Hollywood when the instrument became available. I gave the salesman my credit card info- but they would not just let him leave with the instrument- so my pal paid for it himself, and then drove it down to me a couple of days later.
Ya got to take care of angels like that, and I did.

I was introduced to Joe in 2008, and we have stayed electric guitar and amps pals ever since. He is an incredibly generous person with his time and sharing of knowledge!

This was taken at a gathering one evening where everyone else brought old / original Gibson Les Paul 'Bursts to share. Since I do not have any originals, I brought the oldest Gibson 'Burst I had. Joe also loves vintage LAP STEELS. (Last I heard, he had at least 20 Gibson Korina Skylarks, early K&F and Fenders, my 1955 double neck pearl white 'English Electronics' ToneMaster, plus a whole bunch more.)

I am keeping the EH-185- these are incredible instruments!

Barney, the Gibson EH-185 steels are definitely keepers.

The number of Gibson EH-185 models are actually very limited. Records show that only 503 were shipped by Gibson. My collection includes 6 EH-185(s) with the C.C. pickups, and 8 EH-185(s) with the ES-300 pickups. I personally like the EH-185 models so well that I own one of each different model Gibson made, including one that Gibson changed from a C.C. pickup to a ES-300 pickup before factory shipment. You can see all my EH-185 models on My Vintage Steel Guitars website listed below.

I've been watching your EH-185+ collection for many
years CE! I'd love to get a 7 string, but need one like a hole in the head.

The serial number on this one is F4227-51. I bought it 3-22-2011.

The other Gibsons I have played LOOK great-
but just can not keep up with the sustain the metal plate provides.

I will post more info in GONE HOME- but Peter
was most active in the LAP STEEL section.

Rest in peace old pal!

Joe plays that thing well, he's far more than a dabbler on steel.
