On the country family reunion show he sound fairly dry. On the Buck Ford cd's he sounds really dry, a whole lot different that the 70's when everything was reverb heavy.

Merry Christmas Larry ! When Mike played the Georgia Show years ago, he had a stock Nashville 400 and a Sarno Black box. Just amp reverb.

Mike has a TCE G-Force unit in his studio rig. The G-Force can have up to 8 effects going at once and is a great sounding device for pedal steel. As with any effects unit, sometimes less is more.

Funny how this came up just the other day I was thinking about starting a thread on this same subject I find my self using just the amp and some reverb especially when I'm practicing when we play out for a Gigli add my black box I hear so many players with so many effics til the natural steel is lost I love to hear the pure sound like Llord Green Jhon Huegh I've seen some videos of Tony Brown Bob Turtle they have a very nice clean tone without so many effics course is another one over used to some players have so much added in till they sound out of tune when playing

Live with Reba. I believe he uses a Kemper. But ya can't beat a NV400 with a Fox mood. I think he still uses the 400 around town.

At the Indy club in 2014 Mike used his red Emmons and a peavey LTD 400. He added reverb from a separate unit next to him at the guitar. I asked about his amp and he said no mods just the Eminence Neo speaker. Very impressive skill minimal gear.

Mike's been using the LTD for quite a long time for live work.

Like all of the great players. However, Mike does go to great lengths to make his tone warm and not thin.

Did that amp mod Feb 2008. I remember getting a call from Mike, had no idea who he was other than a steel player in Nashville.

Later got a chance to know him much better. You will never meet a nicer person in Nashville than Mike Johnson
