I know there's a bunch of Forumites, myself included, whose first influence on PSG was Rusty Young, starting with Buffalo Springfield's Kind Woman and into Poco. That solo on Kind Woman totally changed my life. Earlier this year, Rusty was reunited with Jimmy in concert at Infinity Hall in Norfolk, CT, where they played (at least) 3 tunes together, including Kind Woman. Rusty has been fronting Poco for many years now and not playing much steel in their shows, so it's nice to see him back on the PSG. Enjoy!

That was really good. And Randy over the decades kept paychecks coming in with various incarnations of Poco as a front man, but he just seems to really belong in that steel seat, or playing dobro.
There are a lot of great songs where a cover version might equal or even eclipse the original. I'm a big Messina guy, but Kind Woman is one if someone else is performing it, I really miss the guy who put it on the map, in this case Richie Furay. I can only hear Richie's distinct voice in my head with this number.

Nice! Thanks for sharing.
Rusty wasn't the first pedal player I ever heard, but was the first I took notice of just because of growing up in that period of music with Poco being one of the newer bands to meld country and rock, along with great vocals. |

Everyone's right on about Rusty. Those early POCO shows where he would switch between Pedal Steel, dobro and "B3" were fantastic. Saw them at the Fillmore the last night Jimmy played with them. On the last song, Rusty got so intense soloing he came out of his chair, down on his knees, tipped his Bud up on end and had it screaming... "'cause I got the same, from you!"
Russ.... great close-up of Rusty at work. Looks like his little line-driver/fuzz box hanging off the ShoBud. Anyone remember what he used (besides the wah & Leslie)?
Always liked this shot of him digging in deep, in front of the Twins, Showman bottoms, and a 122 Leslie stacked up. Man! That's where it's at, right?
