I have been to see several country music shows and notice that there is no rhythm guitar; either acoustic or electric rhythm guitar. Is there a reason for this?

Bob, if any of these folks are "name acts" can you give us examples of who they are?
I think we need some context to be able to further the discussion.

Most name acts I see usually have a rhythm player. Maybe some of the newer country artists don't, but I only see them by accident.

| It could be that guitarists are just not learning how to do it. In 12 years of teaching guitar, not one student has come to my lesson studio dying to know how to play the groovy rhythm part on Song XX, or how to simply accompany themself or somebody else singing. |

Fred,
I agree with you.
There are very few guitar players who can play rhythm.
They seem to be a dying breed.
With some of these bands, the drummer is so loud you couldn't hear the rhythm player anyway.
