Does anyone know who makes custom metal fret boards?
I need a Zum 12 string fret board and apparently they are rare as hens teeth. _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.

Talk to Jim Palenscar. He does stuff. Only he can tell you if he does this. |

I contacted Jim, he can make one but only in Mono. It may be my only option.
I contacted Doug at Stage One to see if there was a possibility of getting one from his supplier of 10 string boards. _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.

Find somebody that is a Designer or a Draftsman, they can make you one on a Computer drawing & get it printed out on mylar. or aluminum. I don't know why this isn't already a service... _________________ Steel Guitar players are members of a Special Family |

I'm trying to keep it as original as possible. If all else fails I may go with an Infinity fret board. I like the look maybe better than most and I can get one of those. _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.

I contacted Andy. He is no longer making fret boards. It looks as if I may have to go with a different fret board from one of the 12 string current builders like Williams, BMI, Infinity etc... _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.

Just curious what happened to the original fretboard?
Did you contact Bruce Zumsteg for a replacement?
I have been using Jim Palanscars black and silver fretboards and fwiw, they look great on my Sierra!
I needed to get new fretboards when I switched my open S12U tuning to Eb9/Bb6 in order to keep the fret markers in the same place I am used to. |

The original is on a 1982 Zum SD-12. Billy Knowles is doing a full restoration on the guitar. He has to pull the old fret board to polish and re-jewel the neck.
Billy has told me he has had mixed success removing the old fret board without bending, crimping or damaging it. Besides the fact it has several bar dings and scratches in it. The plan is to restore this beautiful guitar to factory condition.
I've contacted Bruce he is all out of his stock of 12 string fret boards. I've contacted Jim and will likely go with a monochrome replica of the Zum pattern if Billy can't salvage the original. The other option I have is to go with maybe an Infinity which would not look original but not bad either.
I paced a call to Doug Ernest as well to see if his supplier of Stage One guitars can make me one in 12 string.
I've just about exhausted my options for an original Zum 12 fret board. _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.

I found an original Zum 12 string fret board still in the package.
Nothing short of a minor miracle. _________________ Zum SD-12 Black, Zum SD-12 Burly Elm Several B-Bender Tele's and a lot of other gear I can't play.
