it's a sorry state of affairs down on Broadway. I was down there twice in the past month and decided to venture out of Robert's and see what else was happening...

didn't find any steel or even any country music. I heard bands covering Nirvana, Guns n Roses, Whitney Houston, Stevie Wonder and more.

it's pretty sad when you walk into a place for a beer and you're thankful the band is on break and Merle Haggard is playing on the stereo. as I walked down Broadway back to my car the overwhelming sound I heard was all the cymbals crashing behind all the rock bands.

BUT,
there are still a bunch of places in town that feature steel guitar and classic country music. we went to the American Legion on a Tuesday and saw 4 different bands that all had steel, including Mike Sweeney in one.

Nashville Palace and Music City Grill seem to have steel 9 times out of 10.

any other places I should be checking out??

Scott, the Thursday gig out there had 3 steel players including me.

You're right about the Palace area clubs. A good place to hear steel.

Last wednesday afternoon at 1.30 Layla`s, Eddy Dunlap for an hour, a bit later at Robert`s Chris Scruggs alternating on guitar and steel and finally at Legend`s Corner, Eddie Lange.
Afternoons are better, or was I just lucky? Top drawer playing for over 3 hours Very Happy

I`m already home, left on Tuesday morning.
I was in town for the ResoSummit and heard a ton of good music within the Summit and out.
No steel content but Jack Pearson`s organ trio blew me away!!
Next time I`m in town, I will look you up, Ron....

I was just in Nashville last weekend. I don't even know what to say... I used to love visiting Nashville and Austin, but both towns are exploding beyond their capacity. All things must change. I believe it's time to find a different music destination.
