A local music store has a Fulawka S-10 pedal steel that they've asked me to tune up for them. I am not a pedal steel player, but I understand how to tune it. The trouble is, they don't have a wrench to tune the pedals and knee levers. The ends where you tune it are made of nylon or plastic, and I don't want to screw them up using the wrong tool. Can anybody point me to an appropriate wrench? Thanks!

I can't remember what the tuning nut head size is (and maybe Fulawkas are different than standard), but you can use a socket screwdriver (lots of players prefer these to the knurled tools you often see). I don't think you can hurt them as long as it fits snuggly. _________________ James Collett |

The 'standard' tuning nut size is 3/16" hex. I think a 5mm socket is also close enough to work. |

The 5mm nut driver is a tiny bit larger than the 3/16" and usually (unless the tuning nuts are exceptionally tight on the rod) will work with either sized nylon tuner. The 3/16" wrench will be too small for a 5mm nut (maybe you can force it on but that's no fun.)
Some steels (Fessenden is one) do use the 5mm. |

Being from Canada, the nut might be metric.

I remember Fulawka as being the standard 3/16. |
