Garland Nash was not only one of the finest lap steel players, he was also a super pedal steel player, fiddle player, guitar player and etc.

He was a dear friend.

One day we decided to just let him play in my music room, along with Wayne Smith on bass and the late Johnny Thomas on Guitar.

You will surely see what I mean when you watch this video.

RIP Garland Nash

Thanks Bill for posting the videos. Watching Garland play brought back old times when Bryan Adams and I used to go to Marion Virginia and listen to Garland play.

He was playing the Fireman's Jamboree With "Cousin" Zeke Leonard and The Virginia Valley Boys.

At that time Garland was in the same class of Steel Players as Billy Bowman, who was playing for Bob Wills, Walter Haynes who was playing for "Little Jimmy Dickens, and Sonny Burnette who was playing for Webb Pierce. All of these players used to live within an hour's drive of each other when growing up.

I believe Garland was a Barber there in Marion during the 50's. Garland would show Bryan and I how he got all those Jerry Byrd licks.

He also showed me how to play "Lady Be Good" but it took me forever, it seems like, to learn it just close, to the way Garland could play it.

Garland was indeed a great player and person who I will always remember as someone who was willing to share his knowledge with beginners.

Thanks for all your hard work Bill.

Loved it. He had the touch of a master of the instrument. Could anyone tell me name of the first tune on the video & also name of a Hawaiian sounding tune in the middle of the video the group kept "massaging?"
I wonder what tuning he was using. To me it sounded like a 13th. Anyone know?

And he could sing, too! His Ernest Tubb impersonation was spot on.
