Single coil pickups hum... sometimes

Thanks for the continued responses, all. Nice to know this is a real thing, and not just me. Guess I will stick to humbuckers of one kind or another. My main steels both have hum-cancelling pickups, but I had to stop using a sweet single coil that I love the tone of; I just canâ€™t take the hum. Not sure if Iâ€™m up to the transformer solution, but maybe one of the days Iâ€™ll try a hum debugger.
