Howdy.

I've got an Emmons student model steel that I love.

When I lower my Es down a half step with LKR, the 9th string doesn't return all the way. Only once I raise them with LKL does the string go back up to its original pitch.

I've tried oiling the changer, and it looks like the lower springs underneath the guitar have plenty of tension on them.

Is there anything else that could be causing this problem? Do I need to take the changer apart to properly lubricate it? I'd rather avoid that if possible.

Thanks for your time.

I'm thinking that you mean the 8th string? If so- try tightening up the 8th string return spring(loosen the collar while holding the return spring in place- extend the return spring and tighten the collar back up).

There are booklets and DVDs by Clem Schmitz that are very helpful in learning to understand push-pulls. As a fellow GS-10 aficionado, I highly recommend Clem's materials. Check out the dealer sauce4050 on eBay.
